Carports

Did you ever get into your car on a hot summer day in Florida and feel like a pizza being slipped into an oven? The carport structure is a pre-engineered kit that was adapted for us from Barn Kits of America. The columns are 8×8 pressure treated wood set in concrete, the beams and Read more…

GHC in the Time of Coronavirus

During especially difficult times it’s especially gratifying to live in a community like Gainesville Cohousing. Like the rest of the country, our lives have been affected by the social distancing requirements to Covid-19. But we do have some important compensations. The community is designed so that people may walk down the street and encounter any number of neighbors sitting out on their front porches. We can easily converse with one another from a safe distance. Read more…

Why I Chose Cohousing

Someone recently asked me to tell them the story of how Gainesville Cohousing got started. It’s a story I’ve told many times. I talk about the group that existed before our current community came together. How my husband and I invited the members from the previous group over to our house, we fed them, and then we made a couple of important decisions as a group and that was the very first meeting of the Read more…

Since that initial conversation about building the first cohousing community in Florida we have welcomed many more people, made a ton of decisions, invested our heart and souls, and worked our fingers to the bone! We have Read more…

Only 3 Lots Left!

We are so close to breaking ground, we can taste it! Our members are selling their current homes, having garage sales, donating extra things, and talking to the banks. With breaking ground only weeks away many people are downsizing, perfecting their floorplans, and pinning their “must-haves” on Pinterest! Since our last Community Steps blog, many exciting things have happened for our neighborhood thanks to the very hard work of our Building committee chaired by member, Read more…
